Evangeline - February 2008

Thanks for that...

Quite a few people have been telling me lately how big I look. There seems to be genuine shock and awe when I say I'm not due until May. Added to that, a friend told me today that I am carrying wide. Why, thank you. Carrying WIDE. Just what every pregnant woman wants to hear. She might as well have told me a look like a heifer. It really did a lot to boost my self esteem.

And here I thought I was looking pretty good... oh well. Reality check!

28 weeks

Ahhh... the beginning of the third trimester. How did that happen already??? Boy time is flying!

The beginning of this final trimester has ushered in a myriad of aches, pains, and discomforts. I don't remember being this uncomfortable this soon with Adelle. Anyone with multiple kids have anything to say about this? Did you find you were more uncomfortable quicker the second time around? Maybe it's just me.*

Anyway... here's my latest picture. I think I look bigger in person than in this picture. Or maybe it's all in my head. Or maybe it's because people keep telling me how huge I am and how they can't believe I'm not due until May. It might be that last one. *

28 weeks

Oh, and I officially don't care how much weight I gain anymore (well, maybe just a little still). I'm tired, I'm uncomfortable, and I'm HUNGRY! *

I go for my next midwife appointment on Monday. I should find out how my one hour glucose test went then. I am predicting it's just fine.

*Disclaimer: Sorry for grumbling so much this time. I need an outlet and this is it today. I have not lost sight, however, of what a miracle and blessing Evie already is to us. We thought we may never have one child, let alone two! Please pray for Evie and I both to continue to be healthy and safe. Thanks.

Fainting and whatnot

No really, I'm fine. I just kinda... passed out a little yesterday morning... and almost again today. But really, I'm fine.

I went to the midwife today and all is going well. I only gained a few pounds (yay!), Evie's great, I don't have gestational diabetes, but I am a little anemic. Hence the fainting and whatnot. Not to mention I also have low blood pressure... always have. So, combine those two things with having not eaten all night and the fact that I am pregnant and it's the perfect recipe for some third trimester passing out. Fun times. So... I am now on an iron supplement and will try snacking a little at night when I get up to go potty. Maybe a glass of milk or some yogurt. Something protein-y. I also don't plan to drive before about 10:00 in the morning since that is when I feel all fainty. Actually, this morning was a pretty funny story...

I went by the hopsital before my midwife appointment to get my rhogam shot (I'm O- and Jamie's A+). As I was sitting in the waiting room for them to call me back I started feeling all lightheaded and tingley again. So I got up and calmly said to the receptionist, "I think I am going to pass out. Will you just keep an eye on me and make sure I don't fall down". Ha ha ha. I can only imagine what the lady thought when I said that. I was quickly ushered back to a bed and given some orange juice. The laying down helped right away. Makes sense with the whole low blood pressure/blood pooling in my legs issue. :) Anyway... I think it's funny. Not the scary passing out part, but what I said to the lady. Craziness.

Okay. Lest you be worried, I can assure you I really am fine. Even my midwife said so.

Evie's room

So, I'm pretty much done putting Evie's room together. It doesn't look too different from Adelle's old room except there's a crib in there again and the monkeys are replaced by bunnies. I decided to go with bunnies for Evie because 1- it goes with her room, 2- I already have some bunnies for her, and 3- I am hoping that she will be my snuggle bunny. Adelle is definitely my silly monkey so her animal fits her well!

Here are a few pics.

And so the insults veiled under the guise of socially acceptable things to say to a pregnant woman continue. Today's little self esteem boost: "Wow! It looks like you've got a good size baby there!"

Thanks for that.

After a ridiculously awful week last week with the 2 hour bouts of nausea and fainting after breakfast each morning, I finally figured out a way to work around it. I get up at 6:00, eat breakfast, and then go back to bed for a few hours. I still don't feel great, but I can function when I get up and that's huge. So yay!

Jamie and I are getting really anxious to see Evie. I know she needs to bake for a few more months so I am in no way wishing her here early. But I just can't wait to see what she looks like! We love you, Evie girl!

Update

I went to the midwife today. All is well. I gained a ridiculous amount of weight in the past two weeks. I guess that's what happens when you get really tired and really hungry all at the same time. Sigh. Part of me is horrified and the other part just doesn't care anymore. It's a constant battle of "I'm starving!" and "Yes, but don't gain so much weight this time!". We'll see which one wins. It'll probably be the hungry part because 1- that part yells louder and 2- that part is more fun.
