Adelle - March 2006

Wednesday, 01 March 2006

As you can see I've updated my picture again. I am starting to feel really big and not so cute anymore, but I guess at this point it's almost over.

I just got more blocks in the mail today!!!

These first two are from my step-mom, Kathy. She claims she hasn't sewn since highschool. Sewing must be like riding a bike then (you know... once you learn, you never forget) because these turned out FABULOUS!!!

Kathy Paulsen

Then there is this one from my Grandma. I am so in love with this fabric!

Enjoy! I know I sure am!

Man I just feel huge these days! It's hard to believe I still have at least a month to go. A co-worker told me that I was 'really filling out' yesterday. Thanks. I mean I know I'm big... I just don't want to hear it. At least they didn't say, 'Man you are huge! How much weight have you gained anyway???". Ha ha ha.

The truth is that I have gained more weight than I wanted to. But it's not like there's anything I can do about it right now. Baby and I are healthy and Jamie does a great job of encouraging me to stay positive (plus he tells me I look great which is always nice to hear!). So, it'll be more work to lose this weight after Baby arrives, but I should just try to focus on the positive - we're healthy and at the end of all this Jamie and I will have a baby. That's a pretty good trade off for a few extra pounds.

Have a fun weekend! We have our baby shower at the church this Sunday. It'll be fun to hang out with everyone and a real blessing to us.

Saturday, 04 March 2006

I got a slug of new blocks yesterday and they are all amazing!!!

This fist one if from Gail Martin, my Hoops and Yoyo friend. Do you not love this one???? Props to DOttie for her hard work helping Gail out with this one!

Gail Martin

Then there are these six from Debbie Nielsen. They could be an entire fun quilt all by themselves!!! You've been busy! Thanks, Debbie... these are super!

And then there is this stunner from Tammy Cox. I do love batiks. Lovely.

Tammy Cox

Thanks as always to all the ladies who have contributed blocks. I am buying fabric today to start putting the quilt(s) together!

We had our first baby shower today. Our church did it for us. It was a joint shower for us and another couple, Todd and Anna, who are due in just three weeks! How fun! There's a picture of the four of us below.

shower1

Talk about a blessing. We had such a great time! We had lunch and then everyone gathered around and prayed for us. We brought the gifts home and opened them here. People we've never even met brought us gifts for Baby. We are so overwhelmed. This church has just loved us and accepted us as theirs.

Our other baby shower is this next Saturday. It should be big fun! My mom and step-dad are coming up for it and my best friend, Hills, is throwing it for me. Yay!

I got some really good news today - I am able to start cutting back my hours at work a week early! Woo hoo! This means that this week is my last week of working full-time. I am just so blessed by this decision. I have been so tired and uncomfortable lately that it has been a real struggle to make it through a full day's work. Thanks to everyone at work for being so supportive and understanding!

Thursday, 09 March 2006

I'm just feeling so BIG these days! I sit at work right now in my jeans and a tee-shirt. Really professional, huh? See, I now have 2 pairs of pants that fit - my jeans and a black pair. The trouble is that all my tops that match the black pair make me too hot. Sigh... so what's a pregnant girl to do? Go shopping! Ha ha ha. I am taking tomorrow off work to prepare for guests this weekend and plan to run by Motherhood and pick up a few larger items. Not exactly fun, but necessary.

People have been asking me lately if I am starting to get anxious about the birth. Surprisingly, I'm not. I really thought I'd be freaking out by now to be honest, but I'm just not. I think that Jamie and I have invested so much into our birth classes that a lot of the 'mystery' of labor and delivery is taken away. We have a really good understanding of how the body works during all these stages and while my labor and delivery might not go by the book, I'll know what's happening to me and Baby. I think that removes a lot of fear. I am so thakful for the classes we decided to attend. I can't say enough great things about the Bradley Method. Even if you don't want a natural childbirth, the classes are really wonderful and do a great job preparing you for whatever may happen on Baby's birth-day.

So I was at Target this morning milling around and a lady came up to me and said, "You know, I just have to tell you that you look great!". I almost started crying. It was just what I needed to hear. She really blessed me. In fact, she made my whole day!

Looking forward to th shower tomorrow! Oh boy!

Sunday, 12 March 2006

Wow! Did I have the most wonderful baby shower ever! I can't even imagine that it could have been more fun and special. I had such a great time with everyone who came. Thank you, Hills... it was PERFECT! We received some of the most fun and beautiful things for Baby. Thank you to everyone who came and/or sent gifts and cards... you have made me and Baby feel so loved and special! In fact, we received so many lovely things that I had to add more to our registry because there were just a few things left on it! Are people excited about Baby or what?

At the shower Hills wanted to see if I could balance my cup on my belly and I could! Here's a picture! I have the funniest look on my face... a mixture of laughing and amazment! I also have food in my cheek like a squirrel. If you can't laugh at yourself... ha ha ha! So funny!

no hands! 2

It's been the best weekend, but I'm pooped. Off to take a nap!

Monday, 13 March 2006

I was so tired yesterday that I forgot to put up a link for you to see all the shower pics. Here ya go!

Today is my first part time day. Jamie just left for work and it feels funny to still be here. But it's good for me. I really need the extra rest these days.

Wednesday, 15 March 2006

I have updated my picture again. Since Baby is growing so fast these days and there's not too much time left, I thought I'd start taking new pics every 2 weeks instead of every 3. Enjoy!

My midwife appointment went well this week. She says I'm still measuring right on for my due date... we'll see if Baby actually decides to arrive around the due date or not.

I've been super teary lately. Every little thing makes me cry. It's a little funny and a little sad all at the same time. Everything is taken so personally lately. Yikes! But at least I think I'm not too grumpy... I just cry a lot instead.

Cutting my hours back at work a week early has been the best thing! I actually have energy to get work done and am not crazy uncomfortable by the end of the day. I am just so thankful to everyone at work for being so flexible and supportive.

Friday, 17 March 2006

We had our last birth class last night. It was so fun. We all brought snacks and spent time chatting and getting to know each other a bit more at the end of class. I wish it was something we had done before now - each couple is so fascinating! I have really loved these classes. Jamie and I both feel very prepared (at least mentally) for Baby's birth and are looking forward to it very soon!

Saturday, 18 March 2006

So I think I might be nesting. Is it normal to be nesting this early? I just know I am usually dead tired but I keep getting these random bursts of energy where I just HAVE to get something specific done RIGHT NOW. For example, I woke up this morning and just HAD to scrub the floors in the apartment and do all of the baby's laundry. Weird, huh? It's pretty unlike me. It's funny, though, and the floors look lovely!

My project for the day is to make my quilt squares to contribute to Baby's quilt and to start piecing the wall hanging together. I'm a little behind, but they'll get done eventually.

Monday, 20 March 2006

My friend from church, Anna, had her baby! Yay! Welcome baby Joshua. She had the fastest first labor ever!!! Water broke around 11:30 pm and contractions started then and he was born about 3:30. Crazy, huh??? Congratulations Todd and Anna!

I finished my blocks for Baby's quilts and started piecing one together this weekend. Fun!

I started working half days today. It's wonderful! I just hope I don't get buried under too much work as we figure out this new situation.

Tuesday, 21 March 2006

I got more blocks today! Yay! These are from my mom and my sister and they are soooooo fun!

My mom made these. One is a puffy block and the other is made from woven ribbon. Awesome job, Mom! I love them (and Baby will, too)!

Lyn Neville

And then these two were done by my sister, Ginger. I wish you could see the detail. The monkeys are sewn on and the frogs are stuffed and have bee buttons sewn to their tongues. SO CUTE!

Ginger Resendiz

I love them! Thanks everyone. I am waiting on just one more from someone and then I can really get going.

Thursday, 23 March 2006

I saw the midwife today. She told me that Baby has dropped, which I figured since I now have a good deal of pressure and soreness, and that Baby will probably be long. Ha ha ha. With Jamie and I as the parents, that comes as no surprise given that we are both tall! Basically, she told me what we all know already - I will have a baby in the next few weeks sometime. Fun fun!

Monday, 27 March 2006

The last quilt block has arrived! Yay! This is one from Sharon Sacks. Fun, huh??? LOVE those colors!

Sharon Sacks

Since I now have the last block, I am able to start piecing the quilt together now. Yay! I actually have the wall hanging almost done already. I'll put up a pic as soon as it's done. The quilt might take me awhile... hang in there with me! I'll get to it as soon as I can. I know you all want to see how it turns out - I do, too!

In 'Baby Watch' news, I am definitely having Braxton Hicks more often, though still not frequent enough for me to confuse them with actual labor. But I can tell for sure that my body is preparing for a major event.

Levi has been acting weird around me lately. I think he can tell something is up. I really think animals can sense things, especially hormone shifts and such. Whenever I am home alone he doesn't leave my side for a second and when I have a contraction, he's right by my side (usually sniffing me). Funny, huh? He's a very protective guy right now... I think he figures it's his job to watch over me if Jamie's not home. What a great cat!

Wednesday, 29 March 2006

Well, as you can see, I've updated my picture again. I can definitely tell a huge difference from just two weeks ago. Even the shape of my belly is diferent since Baby 'dropped'. Now I see why people stare at me wherever I go and tell me I look like I'm about to have the baby any time - because I am! Ha ha ha. If you want to compare pics from 36 and 38 weeks, you can do that here.

I finished the wall hanging last night! Yay! Here is a picture.

wall hanging

I think it turned out really cute. I can't wait to start the quilt. Don't know when that will be, but I am excited about it. Thank you again to everyone who contributed blocks!

Baby has been very busy lately. I think he/she is probably getting a bit uncomfortable, too. I mean if I am uncomfortable, think of how squished Baby is getting. I can tell he/she keeps trying to stretch out as much as possible. I usually end up with a fist in my hip, a bottom pushing out on my tummy, and a foot wedged in my ribs. Silly Baby.

Thursday, 30 March 2006

I just got home from the midwife. Not too much new to report. I tested negative for group b strep so no IV!! YAY!!! She predicts Baby will be long and about 8 to 8 1/2 pounds. As she put it - 'this probably won't be a skinny little baby'. Ha ha ha. Jamie guessed about 9 pounds and almost two weeks late, so he could be right! She says if I end up two weeks late Baby might even be 10 pounds! Yikes! Let's hope I'm not that late! Anyway... she says all is healthy and well, we're just waiting now. And Baby Garrett Watch 2006 begins!

Friday, 31 March 2006

I just heard from Jamie's mom that he was 8 1/2 pounds when he was born so I guess it makes sense that our baby will probably be about the same. But his mom is so tiny!!! I can't imagine her carrying all 8 1/2 pounds of him... she must have been super uncomfortable!

Jamie is getting more and more excited about Baby being born. I am, too, but as I am perfectly content to wait until Baby is ready, he is already coming up with ideas for how he can convince Baby to come early. My mom told us that she heard from a massage therapist that massaging the back of the heel and ankle can start labor if the woman is full-term and he's decided he's going to start doing that every night. I'm not going to turn down a nightly foot rub, so I'm happy to let him! Ha ha ha. Pretty soon he'll be feeding me spicy food and taking me for long walks! I think he might be a little excited about being a dad - what do you think?

There might not be much time left to enter your guesses on our baby game, so if you haven't done so already, please play! Just go here and enter Baby_Garrett as the game name.
