Adelle - October 2006

Sunday, 01 October 2006

We are officially home owners! YAY! We closed on Friday and spent yesterday working on the house. We'll do the same today. Adelle's room has bunnies and flowers painted on it (I LOVE her room!) and she loves those bunnies. She keeps trying to grab them. It's so funny.

Last night Adelle was laying on her tummy and every time Levi (our cat) would come by she would laugh so hard! We couldn't get to the video camera in time, sadly. But man it was so stinkin' cute. She loves Levi. I think deep down Levi loves her, too. He just prefers to feign indifference.

Tomorrow is moving day! Yippy! Let me just say that after spending three days straight painting and working on the house I have MAJOR respect for anyone who does that for a living. It is super hard work. But it was a great workout. My muscles are totally sore.

Jamie has worked harder than anyone on our new house. He is amazing. On Monday he stripped off the old grandma wallpaper off our bedroom walls, primed the walls, and put on the first coat of paint. Wow. He worked for like 12 hours that day. Then, this morning he went over at 5:15 and put on a second coat and cleaned the downstairs rooms up a bit. He is my hero.

I was able to do some work on the house, but not as much as I had hoped. I LOVE painting and stuff and so was excited about doing so much with our new house. I did get to paint our diningroom (the most amazing green ever) and work on the trim in the diningroom and livingroom. I also helped Jamie strip the wallpaper. But Adelle is in major teething mode now and just was not content to play by herself. Fair enough. So I helped when she napped and then took care of her the rest of the time.

I am, in fact, taking a break from packing now. I should probably get back to work while Adelle is napping. That bathroom isn't going to pack itself!

I put up some pictures of the progress we've made on the house. You can check them out on Adelle's photo album. There are also new pictures of her SITTING(!!!!) in her new backyard.

Adelle woke up this morning with a little fever and swollen gums with a huge white blister where her tooth is coming in. I thought today was going to be really rough as her tooth finally cuts through. But as I was feeding her earlier, I felt something scraping along the bottom of her spoon. Yep, sure enough, the blister was gone and a little tooth was poking through her little gums. Yay! That was just too easy. Now we're just waiting for the one on the other side to cut through. Adelle is growing up so fast all of the sudden. Sitting by herself and teeth! She'll be crawling before we know it. Scary.

Well, we're in our house now. YAY!!! We're slowly getting settled. It will take awhile to get all the boxes unpacked and the rest of the painting done. But we're in and we love it! Yay!

Adelle has started scooting her knees up and can almost stay on all fours. One step closer to crawling. Be afraid... be VERY AFRAID! Ha ha ha.

Her other tooth is working its way up and will probably cut through soon. How cute!

Happy first half-birthday to Adelle!!! I can't believe she is already six months old.

So, I am actually in Arizona right now. I flew out with Adelle on Tuesday to surprise my sister, Kelsey, for her 21st birthday. She arrived late last night and Adelle and I went in this morning and surprised her. It went a little something like this:

Kathy, my step-mom, "Kelsey... good morning"

Kelsey, "Why are you waking me up???"

Kathy, "There's someone here to see you" (I stick Adelle's head through the door).

Kelsey, "Mom, I don't want to see the cat"

Adelle, "blah ga blah blah"

Kelsey, "Wha? Huh? Who the? Huh? WHAT ARE YO DOING HERE???" (bursts into tears and grabs Adelle)

We all cry and hug.

The End.

It was so fun to surprise her. Fun!

Adelle cut her second tooth earlier this week. She's growing up so fast.

Well, I'm sure we'll have a great week here in AZ. I'll update as I can.

"Da da da da da." Adelle has added 'da da' to her growing voacbulary. We now have 'ma ma', 'ba ba', 'da da' and other sounds in between. She's quite a little babbler these days. Of course, she still has no clue that the noises she makes actually mean anything. She'll get there. Too cute.

Tomorrow is our last day in Arizona. We've been having a great time. She misses her 'ba ba', though. Everytime I talk about him (Jamie) she lights up. I can't wait to see how excited she gets when she sees him again on Tuesday.

And if I didn't totally respect my mom for the years she was a single mom (which I totally do!), I do a million time more now. It is really hard work.

We had a great time in Arizona. I sure do miss the weather there already! Adelle was a great little traveler and I am not worried at all about our trip at Christmas. After this trip alone, it should be a piece of cake with Jamie there to help!

I've discovered that buying toys will most likely be a waste of money for awhile. Adelle is much happier playing with plastic measuring cups than she is playing with her entire basket of toys. Go figure.

I've added a ton of new pictures to her photo album. Check them out!

If you look closely, you can see her two teeth on the bottom. Too cute.
teeth

I can't decide if this picture is cute or a little scary. Either way it's a funny face... cracks me up.
cute or scary

In non-Adelle news, we're making good progress on the house. I got one coat of paint on the kitchen walls today. Jamie de-wallpapered everything else this past week and the mudroom's all painted. Yay. All that's left is another coat in the kitchen and a bit of trimwork. Getting there. Jamie worked like crazy outside in the back garden today. The past owners weren't gardeners so the ivy kind of took over (Coming to a theater near you - The Ivy That Swallowed the Garden!!!! *scream*!). After taming the ivy, we discovered not only a perfect place for our vegetable garden in the spring, but an entire existing herb garden that had gone amuck. Basil, rosemary, parsley, and more! Yay!

Adelle has finally figured out how to flip herself back over on to her back. She hasn't quite mastered this yet, though (but she can flip herself on to her tummy faster than anything!). So she keeps waking herself up crying because she did it half awake and it freaks her out. Too funny. I go in to find her laying on her back in her crib crying and wondering how she got that way. She did this when she first started rolling over on to her tummy, too. So she'll get used to it soon. In the mean time, I'll just have to do a lot more checking on her during naps. Poor thing.

I gave her some plain yogurt yesterday morning for breakfast with some bananas in it. I figured she'd probably hate it since it's a bit sour, but she LOVED it. Yay for a good source of protein! She'll probably be getting yogurt most mornings for breakfast now. She's getting to be such a big girl. Moving on from the world of fruits and veggies.

Adelle is just rolling all over the place now. I came downstairs this morning and Jamie was sitting in the middle of the livingroom floor laughing at Adelle, who had rolled herself clear across the room! She thinks it's so fun. We do, too... but crawling is coming soon. Now that she has a taste of mobility, she's going to be working even harder to get going! Brace yourselves!

Monday, 30 October 2006

Adelle's dedication went really well yesterday. It was a really lovely day for all of us. All of our pictures didn't turn out, but we're getting some from other people who took pictures, so when we do, we'll post some pictures. In the meantime, I did post a slug of new pictures of Adelle as well as pictures of the house here.

Adelle, Jamie, and I are all sick with a cold. She is also teething again, so she's pretty pitiful these days. She even went down early for a nap this morning. Poor thing.

Tomorrow is Halloween. Although we don't really do much for this holiday, Adelle has a cute little something that she'll wear tomorrow. So check back then for pictures!!!
